7th Grade Tech Ed.


                                                                 Course Purpose


The purpose of this course is to allow the students to explore avenues of interest in a different manner in which they have always associated with school.  The students will start to apply the basic three r’s in a more practical hands on way.  Students will be introduced into how technology is being used in everyday industry.


                                            Tools and Equipment Used in this Course


Basic leather craft stamps (beveler, pear shader, camouflage, veiner, seeder, background tool, swivel knife, mallet, etc.), skiving and head knives,  lacing punches and chisels, lacing needles, three dimensional stamps and letters etc.    Basic hand wood working tools including layout tools, hand planes hand saws, measuring devices, etc.  Some power machines such as, the  miter saw, drill press, scroll saw.  Plastic equipment used will include a strip heater and various types of buffing machines.  


                                                               Course Objectives


The students will:


1.                  Learn basic leather craft by the construction of several small leather projects.


2.                  Learn how to apply math skills in a hands on activity by measuring in inches and fractions.


3.                  Study how why and where boards come from. Emphasis will be given to the environment and how logging affects the environment and wildlife.


4.                  Practice basic woodworking skills by the construction of several small wood projects.


5.                  Gain an understanding of different plastics and plastic manufacturing methods and how they are used in the modern day world. 


6.                  Practice skill used in modern plastic manufacturing by the construction of several projects made from plastic.
